Chennai, November 3: Heavy rains washed up Chennai and Kancheepuram districts. Water-logging, electrocuting and strayed people are the consequences of these showers. Schools in Chennai and Kancheepuram districts are advised to remain shut. Continuous heavy rains have disturbed normal life.

IT companies have also been advised to remain closed due to the downpour. Heavy rains lashed parts of Chennai and neighbouring areas on Thursday, with Chennai receiving a total of 12 cm rain. While people were left astray in the waterlogged areas, heavy traffic was also noticed in a few parts.

To avoid the electrocution a five-member group has been set up in the Electricity Board that would ensure that such incidents do not recur, he added.

As rains continued to lash Chennai and suburbs, low lying areas, especially in Mudichur and Selaiyur near Tambaram, were marooned. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), also tweeted precautions and advisories for people during heavy rain.

The Tamil Nadu Meteorological Department earlier warned of heavy rainfall at a few places in the state in the next 24 hours. "In 24 hours, heavy rainfall is expected in few places in the north coastal region, while heavy to very heavy rainfall in the south coastal region," said MeT official S Balachandran.
