Srinagar, November 30: The Indian security forces on one side have launched a massive counter operation against terrorists and terrorism which aims to restore peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir. On the other side, forces are also giving chance to local terrorists to join mainstream under newly-launched 'surrender mission'. In yet another success, an over-ground worker (OGW) on Wednesday surrendered before security forces in Kulgam district.

Notably, an over-ground worker (OGW) working for both Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror outfit surrendered before security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. The surrendered over-ground worker has been identified as Altaf Sheikh of Qaimoh Kulgam. Altaf Sheikh surrendered fearing to be killed by security forces.

Security officials said that Altaf Sheikh was a close confidante of Hizb ul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba who is operating in Qaimoh belt of Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Security officials also noted that Altaf Sheikh was the known OGW of both terror outfit and was wanted by security agencies and was also underground since many days. “The OGW Altaf is being questioned and further investigation is going on," the officials concluded.

Importantly, with new police policy of not registering any case against those who return to the mainstream, reportedly many new recruits in various terror outfits were keen to surrender but, however, they are not doing so because of the fear of being killed by terrorist leaders.

Earlier, on November 17 of this year, a college student and footballer Majid Arshid, who had joined the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), surrendered before security forces. He was with the LeT terror outfit for one week. Arshid had surrendered by walked into a security camp in south Kashmir with his arms and ammunition.

Majid Arshid’s surrender followed after appeals were made by his parents and Jammu and Kashmir Police. Days after Arshid surrendered to the security forces, a youth from Chimmar village in Kulgam district, Naseer Ahmad returned to the mainstream. Ahmad had joined militancy in September this year.

Meanwhile, the Indian security forces have led a massive war against terrorism and terrorists in the inner parts of Jammu-Kashmir and forward areas. Therefore, Anti-Terrorism operation is continued with such a speed that at least 195 terrorists are eliminated by Indian troops in a time period of only 11 months.
