Sanction game between Russia and Canada starts; both side bans entry of several citizens

Moscow, November 4: After Russia’s long-running sanction war with US, now Canada and Russia have got involved in the sanction trap. On Friday, Ottawa announced financial sanctions and other restrictions on 30 Russians. Later in a reflective action, Russia has banned entry of dozens of Canadians.

The 30 people who have been imposed sanction are connected to acts of corruption involving tax fraud discovered by Sergei Magnitsky in 2008. The newly released lost by Canada has huge similarity with a list published by the US in 2012.

"We are forced to act in a mirror-like manner. Based on the principle of reciprocity, it was decided to ban entry to Russia to a number of Canadian individuals," spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said. The long list contains the name of “Russophobic Canadian citizens”. The commentary has blamed them for destroying bilateral relation.

The commentary from Russia foreign ministry again questioned the worth of sanction. It says, “This raises the question: Is this what Ottawa wanted to achieve? Do its politicians really think that it is possible to put pressure on Russia? Or are they simply pampering their political ambitions?”
