Punjab govt to organize village level sports tournaments to wipe out menace of drugs

Chandigarh, November 5: In a bid to eradicate and wipe out the menace of drugs, the Punjab government on Saturday said that it will start a massive campaign to organize village level sports tournaments across the state.

 

Notably, the State Rural Development Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that in order to wipe out the menace of drugs from the state, the Punjab government would soon start a massive campaign to organize village level sports tournaments across the state. “These tournaments will promote sportsmanship amongst the youth besides channelising their unbounded energy in a positive direction,” he added.

Addressing the gathering during a sports tournament in Sultanpur Lodhi to mark the Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that these tournaments would be held in consonance with the commitment of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to make Punjab a drug free state.

Bajwa further said that these tournaments would be instrumental in giving right direction to the youth of the state. The Minister also noted that in order to ensure free and fair competition in these tournaments Dope test would be made mandatory in them.

He said that it was the need of the hour to ensure that the scourge of drugs was wiped out from the state permanently. Bajwa in the end also exhorted the youth to come forward and support the state government for making Punjab a front ranking state in the country.
