Relief for farmers: Odisha Govt announces compensation for pesticide attack

Bhubaneshwar, November 6: Odisha government has announced compensation to the farmers by giving relief to them due to pesticide attack last month. Odisha Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty had informed that Over 3.15 lakh hectares land was affected by crop loss in the state. Keeping this in mind the state government has declared this compensation payment to the affected farmers.

 

Speaking on this issue Odisha Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout denied the compensation to the farmers who have burnt their crops. “The farmers who have suffered more than 33 per cent crop loss due to pest or any natural calamity will be eligible to get compensation” he said.

Adding to this the minister said that the government is not responsible if farmers take a loan from private lenders.

Bolangir, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Boudh and Nuapada were the highly affected districts by the destructive attack. Number of farmer suicide and crop burn instances in the state was increasing.

“Pest attack is a natural calamity and affected farmers will be compensated as per relief code” said the state government official.
