Texas, November 6: Another unfortunate day for the United States as at least 26 innocents were killed while 20 others were wounded in Sunday’s church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas. The shooting comes within a week when a coward terrorist drove a rented truck on a busy bicycle path near the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan, killing eight people and injuring at least 12 other and tried to escape while shouting “Allahu Akbar.”

Notably, a gunman opened fire at the church in Sutherland Springs, Texas on Sunday killing at least 26 people while injuring 20 others. Among the dead is the 14-year-old daughter of the First Baptist Church's pastor, Frank Pomeroy. However, this was the largest mass shooting in the country’s history. The suspected shooter who was later found dead in his vehicle has been identified as 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley.

President Donald Trump condemned the shooting as an "act of evil" and called it "horrific" while speaking in Japan as he is on 12 days South Asia trip. Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackett said that there was no immediate information on the reason behind the shooting. He further said that while the gunman's motive was unclear, there were no obvious signs of a connection to terrorism.

Meanwhile, Ann Stefanek, a spokeswoman for the Air Force, confirmed that Kelly was court-martialed in 2012 on two charges of assaulting his spouse and their child. “He was confined for a year, reduced in rank to airman basic E-1 and given a bad conduct discharge in 2014,” Stefanek added.

Earlier, in the year 2009, Army psychiatrist, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan killed 13 people in one of the deadliest mass shootings at an American military base that was situated in Fort Hood in Texas. Major Hasan carried out his attack in an attempt to wage jihad on American military personnel.

However, the death toll on Sunday also exceeded the number killed in 1966 by a student at the University of Texas at Austin, Charles Whitman, who opened fire from the school’s clock tower in a day of violence that ultimately killed 17. It also exceeded the number killed during a rampage at a restaurant in Killeen in 1991 in which a gunman fatally shot 23 people and then took his own life.
