UN’s climate change talks started in Germany

Bonn, November 6: The 2017 United Nations Climate Change Conference started in Bonn, Germany on Monday with strong, unified calls to hold to the path of the Paris Climate Change Agreement. The twenty-third session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 23) will be presided over by the Government of Fiji. 

In the opening ceremony, children from Bonn International School were carrying the placards written on "Save Our World" as they chanted. Before official speeches begun the song "I'm an Island "was played as an opening song. Since the United States decided to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, this is the first time that more than 190 countries and territories will take part in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP23).

After that the conference took place against this year’s background of destructive hurricanes, fires, floods, droughts, melting ice and impacts on agriculture which threaten food security.

UN Climate Change Executive Secretary of Patricia Espinosa said: “Together with the Sustainable Development Agenda, we have a clear path forward to truly address climate change and sustainable development.”

By the next round in 2018, Delegates will negotiate to concrete rules for the agreement. Also, the discussion on reduction goal repost will be done and to fulfill them the updated efforts will be taken. As on Climate Change, the Paris Agreement came into effect last year in November which also requires all the nations to make efforts so that the emissions of greenhouse gasses should be reduced. The conference will end on November 17th.
