Washington, November 7: Now your wish in your wishlist to have your name on the red planet will be fulfilled soon. According to reports by NASA more than 2.4 million people have registered to have their names on Mars. Last month, NASA invited members of the public to send their names to Mars. After this invitation, the public responded loud and clear.

In 2015, nearly 8,27,000 people signed up to add their names to a silicon microchip onboard the robotic spacecraft. NASA is now adding a second microchip, giving the public another chance to send their names to Mars.

More than 1.6 million people signed up to have their names etched on a microchip that will be carried on NASA's upcoming InSight mission, which will be launched in May ’18.This fly-your-name opportunity comes with "frequent flier" points reflecting an individual's personal participation in NASA's exploration of Mars.

Bruce Banerdt, the InSight mission's principal investigator said "Mars continues to excite space enthusiasts of all ages and this opportunity lets them become a part of the spacecraft that will study the inside of the Red Planet."

InSight will be the first mission to look deep beneath the Martian surface, studying the planet's interior by listening for marsquakes. These quakes travel through geologic material at different speeds and give scientists a glimpse of the composition and structure of the planet's inside. The insights into how Mars formed will help us better understand how other rocky planets are created.
