According to media reports, the national award winning actress
would be entrusted with the crucial responsibility
at National level which will strengthen
the political prospects of Congress in Telangana region. The actor turned politician contested the 2014 state
assembly election from Medak assembly segment on Congress ticket but lost the battle to Padma Devender Reddy of Telangana
Rashtra Samithi.
With the moniker of Lady Amitabh of South, Vijayashanti Srinivas was known for her power-packed performance in down south. She has acted in over one hundred and eighty films in a variety of roles in various languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
Vijayashanti began her political inning with the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1997. She helmed the post of General Secretary of the BJP’s women’s wing. Later in 2005, the superstar floated her won outfit called “Talli Telangana”. In 2009 the actress successfully contested the Lok Sabha poll from Medak constituency as TRS Candidate.
In 2014 citing the charges of anti-party activities the firebrand leader was suspended from Telangana Rashtra Samithi. Following the expulsion from the TRS, the actor joined Congress on the backdrop of 2014 general election.
