Walking down the street of music, Chennai reaches UNESCO Creative Cities Network

Chennai, November 8: The rich musical culture of India has always been adored by music lovers across the globe. From classical music to pop Bollywood or regional music, folk music, India music is a rich heritage of the country. The South Indian city Chennai has gifted many talented musicians, innovative musical genres and especially its contribution to Kannadi Classical is unquestionable. As a recognition of its contribution, the city has been designated have been designated as UNESCO Creative Cities. After Jaipur and Varanasi, Chennai is the third city to make its place on the list. Prime Minister Naredra Modi has congratulated Chennai people on this proud moment.

Where there are creativity and innovation, development and sustainability follow the place easily. That is UNESCO is trying to put more efforts to foster innovation and creativity as key drivers for a more sustainable and inclusive urban development. 64 cities from 44 countries have been designated as UNESCO Creative Cities by Director-General, Irina Bokova.

“These new designations showcase an enhanced diversity in city profiles and geographical balance, with 19 cities from countries not previously represented in the Network” declared the Director-General. Along with Chennai, many other world famous cities including Cairo, Istanbul, Dubai, Manchester, Toronto have acquired their place in the list.

For this glorious respect, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated people of Chennai on the inclusion of Chennai in UNESCO Creative Cities Network. "Congratulations to the people of Chennai on the city’s inclusion in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for its rich musical tradition. Chennai’s contribution to our rich culture is precious. This is a proud moment for India," he said.
