New Year Gift: Bengaluru will reserve ‘Pink Autorickshaws’ only for ‘Women’

Bengaluru, November 8: Bengaluru has New Year gift especially for women as from January onwards, pink autorickshaws will be seen on the roads of Bengaluru, and they’ll be reserved only for women and children. 20% of the autos under the social welfare scheme of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be reserved for women. 

This move has come a week after the announcement that women drivers will have reserved parking in Brigade Road in the city. “BBMP distributes 300-400 autos under the social welfare scheme. Under this, we plan to designate 20 per cent as Pink Autos. This will be started in a pilot phase from January,” said the Mayor.

For those planning to purchase the pink autos, there will be a subsidy of up to Rs. 25,000/-. These women-only, pink autos have been launched in Noida, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad as of now. There have been mixed responses from women commuters about their benefits so far.

Raj said that the pink autos will start running from January. “BBMP distributes 300-400 autos under the social welfare scheme. Under this, we plan to designate 20 per cent as Pink Autos. This will be started in a pilot phase from January,” he added.

“We have already had the first meeting in this regard. We decided to go ahead with this after seeing an impressive response to the parking reservation. Joint commissioners have been directed to take the initiative forward,” he added further.
