New Delhi, Nov 8: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court of India to register an FIR against former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav for firing at the Karsevaks in 1990 in Ayodhya.

One Rana Sangram Singh of Lucknow has filed this petition in the apex court citing the references of Mulayam Singh’s speeches at Mainpuri and Gonda delivered during the election campaign in 2014.

In these public speeches Mulayam Singh had confessed that he had ordered firing at the Karsevaks assembled at Sri Ramjanmabhumi at Ayodhya 27 years ago in 1990. Two karsevaks were killed in that firing and many others were injured.

The question that was raised in the petition raised doubts over the authority of the Chief Minister to order the police to open fire at the crowd of thousands and whether the police was bound to follow that order only from the chief minister.

It may be mentioned that earlier the lower court in Lucknow and the High Court had rejected similar petition against Mulayam Singh.
