Beijing, November 8: US President, Donald Trump arrived China on a three-day visit to talk with Chinese President, Xi Jinping, on a wide range of issues. The issues include putting rein on North Korea to try to stop it from its nuclear programs. Apart from that the two nations are expected to sign trade agreements worth billions of dollars.

The Trumps started the visit with a trip to the Forbidden City in downtown Beijing, where they had tea with Xi and Peng before touring the former imperial palace. The World Heritage Site was closed to the public and security tightened for the visit.

Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said the “state visit-plus” red-carpet welcome was in return for the “warm, considerate reception and the high standard and thoughtful arrangement” the Trumps made for Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan in Florida in April.

Xi and Trump will hold strategic communications on significant issues of common concern to build new consensus, enhance mutual understanding and friendship, and promote bilateral relations in all spheres, according to Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang.

White House said “the President will travel to Danang, Vietnam, on November 10. There, he will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting and deliver a speech at the APEC CEO Summit. In the speech, the President will present the United States’ vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region and underscore the important role the region plays in advancing America’s economic prosperity.”

This is the third meeting between Xi and Trump following their first meeting at Mar-a-Lago, Florida in April and the second in Hamburg, Germany on the sidelines of the G20 summit in July.

On November 11, the President will travel to Hanoi, Vietnam for an official visit and bilateral engagements with President Tran Dai Quang and other senior Vietnamese leaders.

Later, Trump will arrive in Manila, Philippines, on November 12 to participate in the Special Gala Celebration Dinner for the 50th Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). On November 13, the President will celebrate the 40th anniversary of U.S.-ASEAN relations at the US-ASEAN Summit and participate in bilateral meetings with President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines and other leaders.
