Papua New Guinea hit by quake of 6.5 Magnitude

Port Moresby, November 8: Papua New Guinea on Wednesday hit by magnitude 6.5 earthquake. About 83 kilometer the quake struck south of the coastal city of Wewak and around 67km south-west of Angoram but it was fairly deep, some 112 kilometer underground, due to which the shaking has been alleviated. 

According to the local media, there is no damage from the quake and currently no warning of a tsunami threat to Australia. The quake hit at 21:26 UTC (IST is 5.30 hours ahead of UTC), around 67km south west of Angoram.

Earlier in 2017, Papua New Guinea earthquake was of the 7.9-moment magnitude that struck at 04:30 UTC on 22 January 2017. At 06:39 UTC, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a final message, indicating that there is no longer a tsunami threat from the earthquake. Three people were killed during the quake and one was injured. Damage occurred in Arawa and parts of central Bougainville, while a power outage occurred in Buka.
