Kolkata, December 1: The law and order, security of common citizens are declining day by day in West Bengal. West Bengal comes as a topper in such a list of what the state can’t really celebrate but feels afraid only. The latest report of National Crime Record Bureau shows the highest number of cases of human trafficking in 2016 has been recorded in West Bengal.

“A total of 8,132 cases of Human Trafficking were reported in the country with West Bengal reporting the highest number of cases (3,579) sharing nearly 44% followed by Rajasthan (1,422) sharing 17.9% of such cases in the country,” a press release from NCRB said.

For crimes of human trafficking, Rajasthan is also not in a good place sharing 17.9% of total human trafficking cases in the country. However, a total of 15,379 persons were trafficked during the year. Among the 15,379 trafficked people, 58.7% were children.

Women in households are also not safe in West Bengal. Across the country violence against women has gone up by 2.9%. It is very unfortunate that Majority of cases of crimes against women were reported under ‘Cruelty by Husband or His Relatives’. Even for cases of domestic violence West Bengal, unfortunately, topped the list with a share of 19,302 cases.

Uttar Pradesh reported 14.5% (49,262) of total cases of crimes against women followed by West Bengal (9.6%) (32,513 cases) during 2016.
