Beijing, December 10: China had warned its Pakistan nationals of plans for a series of 'imminent terrorist attacks' with China as the main target. The Chinese Embassy in Islamabad posted the unusual alert on its website.

"It is understood that terrorists plan in the near term to launch a series of attacks against Chinese organizations and personnel in Pakistan,” the Chinese resident in Pakistan stated.

It did not provide details on the nature of the terrorist threat but urged all Chinese nationals to enhance personal security, limit outdoor trips as much as possible and avoid crowded public places.

It also asked Chinese nationals to cooperate with Pakistan`s police and the military, and to alert the embassy in the event of an emergency.

China’s exposure to militant attacks has risen in recent years as its overseas footprint expands. Chinese workers have been to Pakistan for Belt and Road development plan. The Islamic State group said in June it kidnapped and killed two Chinese teachers in Quetta.

China has invested heavily in Pakistan, where thousands of Chinese workers are employed in USD 60 billion worth of infrastructure projects.

Meanwhile, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recruited 1,500 policemen for the security of CPEC route. Similarly, 2500 more policemen will be recruited soon, he said.

An official from the KP said the government is spending more than one billion rupees for the purchase of necessary training equipment for the force. The force will be properly trained and equipped with latest weapons to secure the CPEC route.
