Ahmedabad, December 10: Sixty eight per cent polling was recorded in the first phase of Gujarat polls, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Unmesh Sinha said on Saturday evening.
The election is being viewed as a prestige battle for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a litmus test for the leadership of soon-to-be Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.
The second phase of polling in 93 seats will be held on December 14 while the counting of votes is scheduled on December 18.
Election Commission also rubbished any charges of tampering of Electronic Voting Machines through Bluetooth devices.
Some visuals and stories were circulated in Social Media claiming that the Bluetooth devices were used to hack electronic voting machine at a booth in Porbandar.
BB Swain, Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat, said that the Election Commission of India ordered an inquiry and came to the conclusion that the Bluetooth waves were originating not from the EVM but from mobile phone of a polling agent who was sitting inside the booth.
