Chilly winter strikes North India; IMD predicts snowfall and heavy rain in parts of J&K and Himachal

Srinagar, December 11: With the starting of December, North India has started experiencing usual winter chill. While intense cold waves are striking the northern part, heavy rain and snowfall have been also predicted in parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

 
As per Indian Meteorological Department’s prediction, next 48 hours can witness heavy rain and snowfall in most places of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh due to the western disturbance. Punjab, North Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand can also receive rainfall in next 48 hours.

Many places in North India are experiencing temperatures below 10 degrees. Delhi had a minimum temperature of 7.4 degrees while in Himachal temperature even touched zero in Kalpa. Other places like Manali, Bhuntar, Sundernagar, Solan, Shimla, Dharamsala, Una, Palampur, and Nahan recorded a low of 0.4, 3, 4.3, 6, 6.6, 6.8, 7, 8 and 10.3 degree Celsius respectively. The lowest minimum temperature of 4.8°C recorded at Hissar (Haryana) in the plains of the country

Taking precaution for IMD forecast, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has directed Divisional Administration of Kashmir to be in a state of preparedness. In Sunday night, the temperature dipped in several places even touching the negative scale.
