The Congress Party’s central election authority head Mullappally Ramachandran announced Rahul Gandhi as a new president. He said, "I hereby declare Shri Rahul Gandhi elected as the president of the Indian National Congress." “Rahul Gandhi will collect the certificate formally declaring his ascension to the post on December 16,” he added.

While making the announcement, Ramachandran noted that all 89 nominations proposals were found to be valid, and Rahul Gandhi had been elevated to the top post since he was the only candidate in the fray. The 47-year-old leader will take over the reins of the party from his mother and current president, Sonia Gandhi, on December 16. Importantly, Sonia Gandhi has held the position for 19 years.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "The entire country has lots of expectations from Rahul Gandhi. Much before he was elected, he has shown his mettle. He knows his responsibility." Meanwhile, the Congress party also took to a twitter congratulating Rahul Gandhi. It said, “The entire Indian National Congress family would like to convey our best wishes to incoming President Rahul Gandhi, and wish him a successful tenure as he continues to lead from the front. #CongressPresidentRahulGandhi”.
