Sailing through the vast blue ocean: All women crew of INSV Tarini leaves New Zealand starting another phase of journey

Lyttelton, December 12: Everywhere from air to water, Indian women are proving their power, talent. While one woman achieves great in sports, some others in space science, army, air force, entertainment, education, diplomacy and last but not the least in Navy too. The Indian Navy’s second ocean-going sailboat Tarini which is an all-women team has left New Zealand’s left Lyttelton for its onward journey to Port Stanley of Falklands.

INSV Tarini had arrived at Lyttelton on 29 November 2017 after completion of the second leg of its maiden voyage to circumnavigate the globe. This historic circumnavigation attempt by an all-women crew is being led by Lieutenant Commander Vartika.

The crew interacted with a wide range of stakeholders during the welcome reception hosted by the High Commission on 30 November 2017. INSV Tarini was open to visitors at Lyttelton Port of Christchurch on 3 December 2017. Nearly 200 visitors, from all walks, visited the vessel and interacted with the crew. The crew also visited the Naval Point Yacht Club, Canterbury, and Ara Institute. Even the city’s traditional festive march, known as the 'Santa Parade' also welcomed them.

The extremely challenging expedition by all Women Crew commenced in the latter part of September. INVS Tarini is one of the operating four sailing vessels capable of open ocean deployments. Indian Navy is attempting to revitalize open ocean sailing.
