Transport revolution: Govt targets to laying over 40 km of roads every day in 2018

New Delhi, December 12: Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said the Government is aiming to construct 40 Kilo Metres of road every day in the country by next year. He has termed the introduction of sea-plane a 'big revolution' in the field of transport in India.

Addressing ASEAN-INDIA Connectivity Summit in New Delhi, Gadkari said, India has made significant strides as far as construction of National Highways are concerned. He said, recently the Centre has approved construction of over 34 thousand kilometres of road network over the next five years under the Bharatmala Pariyojana.

The Union minister further said that the river and port connectivity is very important for boosting trade and investment in India as well as in the ASEAN region. Our government has taken a decision to connect 111 rivers into waterways.

“It's a great achievement for our government that we have already started the project in Ganga which is from Baranasi to Haldia, 1,608 kilometres. Government are making 3 multimodal hub, 40 river points and 9 ferry services, 8 rural services. We have already started work in repair of Farraka water gate," he added.

Notably, PM Narendra Modi, today travelled from the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad to Dharoi Dam via sea-plane. The union minister further added that the PM is free to use any transport facility and that it has nothing to do with the Gujarat polls.
