Chandra Babu Naidu appeals PM Modi to clear Polavaram deadlock

Amaravati, December 13: In order to ensure the smooth sailing of multipurpose national project Polavaram, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene a coordination meeting of Chief Ministers of neighboring states.

According to media reports, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister is reportedly unhappy with the dawdling progress of his pet project Polavaram has sought center’s intervention to clear the deadlock. A neighboring state like Chattisgarh, Telangana, and Orissa have already expressed their concerns regarding the Construction of mega irrigation venture.

Challenging the ongoing project, the Orissa government led by Naveen Patnaik had already filed a suit in the Supreme Court raising objection over the construction of a dam which might affect the border villages, especially in Malkangiri district. The Orissa government argued that the project would intensify the problems like submergence of tribal land, flooding of agricultural land and mass displacement of villagers.
