Uttarakhand teacher among the top 50 of Global Teachers Prize’18

Dehradun, December 14: A Differently Abled Indian teacher's name from an Institute of Uttarakhand has been included in the top 50 contestants for the Global Teacher Award of USD one million on Wednesday.

 

Pradeep Negi, economist, social science and computer science teacher at Government Inter College, BHEL Ranipur, Haridwar has been shortlisted from over 30,000 nominations and applications from 173 countries of the World for the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2018.

 

Negi said, 'It's incredible. I am proud that I have been selected in the top 50 teachers. It has inspired teachers in our community. Negi added that “from the age of two I am Divyang (suffering from polio) but no one can prevent me from being successful. I am happy that I can inspire other people too. I have done many innovative works in ICT for our poor children and I am happy that they were recognized.”

Sunny Varkey, founder of the Varkey Foundation and Global Teacher Prize, said, "Congratulations on reaching the final 50 Pradeep Negi. I hope your story will motivate people to come to the teaching profession. "

Out of these 50 teachers, 10 will be selected from the committee and results will be announced in February, 2018. One of the last 10 of the Global Teacher's Prize Academy will choose as the winner. The last 10 teachers to be selected will be invited to Dubai for the award ceremony at the Global Education and Skills Forum on March 18, 2018, where the winner will be announced.
