New Delhi, December 14: Union Minister for Law and Justice and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad said nobody should touch Ram Setu.

As the nation marks the 16th anniversary of the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, Prasad said Ram Setu is an emblem of Indian culture and heritage.

“Ram Setu ke saath kabhi bhi koi bhi chhed chhaad nahi honi chahiye. Woh Bharat ki saanskritik viraasat ka bahut bada prateek hai,” Prasad told reporters here.

He also hit out at the previous UPA government for filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court questioning the belief that the land bridge was built by Lord Ram to reach then Lanka to rescue his wife Sita, as depicted in the epic Ramayana.

"Those who filed the affidavit should explain now. The research has supported what the BJP has been claiming all along. The setu is part of our cultural heritage," he said.

It was reported that Union Law Minister’s reaction came after an Amercian science channel cited that Ram Setu, which connects India and Sri Lanka is not natural but is man-made.
