Hyderabad, December 15: External Affair Minister Sushma Swaraj lends the helping hand to the Mohammadi Begum, Telangana woman who was tortured by in-laws in Pakistan. “She is India’s daughter. If the ticket is a problem, we will provide the ticket to Mohammadi Begum for her return from Pakistan,” tweeted EAM Sushma Swaraj after this Telangana woman claimed to have been tortured by her husband and in-laws in Pakistan.

On Thursday, Mohammadi Begum’s father, Akbar appealed to the Centre and Sushma Swaraj to help him in the release of his daughter. Akbar hails from Yakutputra who earlier requested EAM Sushma Swaraj to facilitate his daughter's visa so that she could visit them in India. To this on EAM Swaraj’s direction, Mohammadi Begum was granted a visa by Pakistan for 30 days in November.

Mohammadi Begum got married to Mohd Younus in 1996, over the phone. Younus purported himself to be a resident of Oman, but when Mohammadi went to live with him, she came to know that he was a resident of Pakistan and was faking his identity. Younus later took Mohammadi to Pakistan, where she was not allowed to contact her parents and was allegedly tortured.

Mohammadi Begum has not been allowed to meet her family for the past 21 years, her father said. Now her father, Akbar has appealed to help him arrange the tickets of his daughter as only three days are left for her visa to expire. "The visa is about to expire in three days. Eight days back, my daughter's husband called me and asked me to arrange the tickets. I don't have that amount of money to arrange the tickets for her," he said on Wednesday.
