Berlin, December 15: Germany government has now decided to give money to those migrants who will leave the country and go back to their home nations.

The country has long offered migrants and asylum seekers financial incentives to leave its shores, and until February 28, 2018 it's prepared to pay out extra.

Individuals will get €1,000 and families up to €3,000 to cover rent or resettlement costs back in their home countries - things like basic kitchen or bathroom facilities.

Migrants who agree to go back even before their asylum request is rejected have already been offered money under a different program for almost a year. They would now be eligible to apply for both programs.

Those who voluntarily return are already offered between 800 and 1,200 euros per person, but in order to boost numbers, the government now offers a housing support grant of 3,000 euros per family. If a family of more than four people returns voluntarily; they can receive an additional 500 euros.

Half of the grant is paid upon leaving Germany, and the other half is paid six to eight months after their have arrived in their home country.

The scheme only applies to those from what the International Organization for Migration (IOM) deem to be 'safe countries of origin', such as Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Iraq, Iran, Libya and Somalia.
