New Delhi, December 15: India has said it is working on finalising the visit of the mother and the wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav to Pakistan to meet him. Notably, Pakistan yesterday directed its High Commission in New Delhi to issue visas to the wife and mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav.

In reply to a media query in New Delhi this evening, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, we had welcomed Pakistan’s offer to allow Kulbhushan Jadhav’s mother and wife to meet him. We are now working on finalizing the visit, we are also working on the modalities in consultations with the family members themselves.”

“There has been no consular access to India by Pakistan to meet Kulbhushan Jadhav. At this stage I don’t think it is proper for me to share more details on this matter,” he added.

The directive was issued by the Foreign Ministry following its decision last week to allow Jadhav's family to meet him on the 25th of this month. The Foreign Office sources said that adequate security measures will be taken for complete safety of Jadhav's family.

Jadhav has been in Pakistan's custody over alleged espionage charges. After Pakistani Military tribunal sentenced him to death on false charges of espionage and terrorism, India approached the International Court of Justice in May and secured a stay. A mercy petition was filed by Jadhav before Pakistan Army chief General on June 22.

Pakistan falsely claimed its security forces arrested Jadhav from Balochistan on March 3 last year. However, the truth is that he was abducted from Iran where he had gone on a business trip.

India has clarified that Kulbhushan Jadhav is a kidnapped retired officer of the Indian navy in Pakistani custody. India will consider it as a premeditated murder if Pakistan kills him. He also said that Pak has no evidence against him.
