New Delhi, December 15: The Election Commission has said, the function of commissioning of naval submarine INS Kalvari attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai is not within the purview of Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Replying to media queries about Congress allegations, Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha said, as it was not under Model Code, no permission was also sought from the Commission for the function.

He said, as such the Commission did not intervene in the matter. Sinha said, the matter related to the allegations of Congress against BJP leaders during Gujarat election is under examination.

After the Congress party's complaint of PM Modi's alleged roadshow outside the Ranip polling booth in Ahmedabad, the Election Commission assured that it will look into the matter.

Yesterday evening, Congress has again approached the Election Commission demanding registration of FIRs against top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi for, violating the Model Code of Conduct in Gujarat.

In a fresh memorandum, the party raised the issue of alleged roadshow by Modi after casting his vote today. The Congress also charged the Commission with not taking any action despite two complaints filed by its Gujarat unit against the BJP leaders.

Earlier the Election Commission has issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi and asked him to give a reply by 5pm of December 18. The EC said, "Explain why action should not be taken against you for violating provisions of MCC, failing which Commission will decide matter without any further reference to you."
