Winter Olympics in South Korea to see Robot “volunteers” assisting visitors

Seoul, December 15: You have heard of Human volunteers in different social events, but have you ever heard of robot volunteers? If the answer is no, then wait till next winter Olympics which will be hosted in South Korea. The country has announced that 85 robot helpers will be available to assist visitors at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

During the Winter Olympic Games robot volunteers, will be assigned to various venues. From Airport to stadium these robot friends will help tourists with travel directions, tourist information, and boarding advice in many languages including Korean, English, Mandarin, and Japanese. The country is utilizing the opportunity to showcase its technological development to the visitors across the world.

The technologically sound country will feature total 11 types of Robot in this international sporting event. Among these types, HUBO – a walking humanoid robot is the most noticeable one which the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics relay torch during a stretch in Daejon, South Korea. HUBO was mainly designed for rescue operations.

There will be painting robots will travel around the stadium, and create murals on the walls. There will be fishing robots, delivery robots along with automated vacuum cleaners.

“Through the robot’s participation in the relay, we were able to show people how far (South) Korea’s robotics industry has developed and show people the different ways that robots can be used in the near future,” Professor Oh Jun-Ho, developer of HUBO said.
