JK police arrested hardcore associate of LeT from Kupwara; busts two hideouts, recovers huge ammunition

Srinagar, December 2: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday busted two hideouts and arrested a hardcore associate of the terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, security forces have intensified their efforts to curb terrorism and terrorists from Jammu and Kashmir with an aim to bring peace, law and order in the valley.

 

Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara police arrested a hardcore over ground worker (OGW) of LeT terror outfit and also busted two hideouts from where huge arms and ammunition were recovered in Kupwara district. The OGW of LeT is identified as Affaq Ahmad Bhat alias Abu Huraira who is a son of Mohammad Akbar Bhat, a resident of Panditpura.

The police official said that OGW Affaq Ahmad Bhat was the supporter of LeT terrorist Abu Maaz and was providing logistic support to him. The police official in his statement said that huge cache of ammunition including 01 pistol, 02 Pistol Magazines, 11 pistol rounds, 02 wireless sets, 01 Ysms set, 04 mobile sets, 01 UBGL thrower, 01 UBGL Grenade, 02 AK magazines, 105 AK rounds, 02 compass, 01 Binocular, 01 Wire cutter, 05 Battery chargers, 48 Batteries, First Aid (Made in Pakistan), medicines /Cotton Bandage, 02 Cooking Flames, 01 Perfume, 02 Maps, 01 Jacket, 02 Bags and Cosmetics etc were recovered from the hideouts.


Earlier, on November 29 of this year, and OGW working for both Hizbul and LeT terror outfit surrendered before the Army in South Kashmir. The worker was identified as Altaf Sheikh and was operating in Qaimoh belt of Kulgam district. On November 28, three OGWs were arrested by 9 Rashtriya Rifles from Kulgam's Devsar area. Two grenades, a cheque of Rs 55,000 and Rs 12,000 cash were recovered from their possession.

Meanwhile, at least five terrorists were eliminated by the security forces on this week’s Thursday in two different encounters that took place in central Kashmir’s Budgam district and Sopore. The Indian security forces have led a massive war against terrorism and terrorists in the inner parts of Jammu-Kashmir and forward areas. Therefore, Anti-Terrorism operation is continued with such a speed that 200 terrorists are eliminated by Indian troops in a time period of only 11 months.
