Chandigarh, December 20: Forced Conversion of minorities in Pakistan is a very common phenomenon but the international community continues to sideline the important. However, India has decided to act tough on the forced conversions that are being done in Pakistan. Notably, the Indian government will take up at the highest level in the Pakistan government reports of Sikhs being forced to convert to Islam by a government official in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

As soon as the Pakistan daily The Express Tribune published a news story about the Sikh community raising serious concerns after being forced to convert to Islam by the government official in Hangu district of K-P, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj took to a twitter saying that the Indian government will take this serious matter at the highest level with Pakistani government. The Minister tweeted, “We will take this up at the highest level with Government of Pakistan. @IndiainPakistan”.

On the other side, expressing the concern over reports that the Sikh community in Hangu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province had complained of such conversion, CM Capt Amarinder Singh called on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and urged to take up the issue with Pakistani authorities.

Earlier, in the last week, the Sikh community raised serious concerns after ‘being forced to convert to Islam’ by a government official in Hangu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The community members filed a complaint with Deputy Commissioner Hangu Shahid Mehmood and claimed that Assistant Commissioner Tehsil Tall Yaqoob Khan was allegedly forcing Sikhs to convert to Islam.
