PM Modi dials top Nepalese leaders, assures assistance for peace and development of Nepal

New Delhi, December 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held telephonic talks with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, and CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, PM Modi spoke with the top Nepalese leaders and congratulated them on their successful participation in the recently conducted parliamentary and first-ever provincial elections. Holding of elections at all three levels of the Government in 2017 is a commendable achievement.

 

In his telephone conversations, PM Modi reiterated India’s support to Nepal in its pursuit of stability, prosperity, and inclusive development. PM Modi recalled that timeless people to people contacts are at the heart of the India-Nepal ties.

An MEA statement said, Our open border is a reflection of our unique bonding. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthen these bonds of friendship and work with the incoming Government on a broad range of development and reconstruction projects.

Meanwhile, Oli told the Indian PM that he was focused on stability, strengthening democracy, good governance and economic development, and would work to maintain friendly relations with neighbouring countries.

“Stating that he will work towards cooperating with India and China for peace and prosperity, Oli also invited the Indian PM for Nepal visit, and said he would send an official invitation to the Indian PM immediately after the formation of the new government,” read the UML statement.

The conversations were the first highest-level contact between the leaderships of the two countries after the Communist alliance of Oli and Prachanda swept the elections in Nepal a few days ago.
