For sixth straight time BJP to rule Gujarat, Vijay Rupani to continue as Chief Minister

Gandhinagar, December 22: After registering a thumping win in Gujarat Assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to rule the state for the sixth straight time. Likewise, BJP continues to rule Gujarat, Vijay Rupani will continue to be a Chief Minister of the state and Nitin Patel as his deputy.

 

Notably, the decision to make Vijay Rupani a Chief Minister of the state and Nitin Patel as a deputy CM in a meeting at state party headquarters in Gandhinagar on Friday. All the BJP MLAs unanimously accepted Vijay Rupani and Nitin Patel as Legislature party leader and deputy Legislature party leader respectively.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley officially announced the face of CM and Deputy CM during the press conference at party headquarters in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Minister Jaitley said, "All MLAs of the party were present in the meeting and the decision was taken unanimously." “We will inform you all about the swearing in soon,” he added.

Giving the details of the meeting, the Finance Minister said that "There's a procedure of consultation in the party. I asked members if there were any alternatives they wanted to name. Since there were none, the two (Rupani and Patel) were declared as unanimously elected."


Speaking on the occasion, Nitin Patel vowed to continue to work for the people with the help of other party members just like our previous government. He said, “I want to give assurance to Gujarat public that I and Vijay Bhai will continue to work for the people with the help of other party members just like our previous government.”

While Vijay Rupani also vowed to work for the welfare of the people and contribute in the all-round development of the state. He said on Twitter, “My sincere gratitude to Honourable PM Shri @narendramodi Ji & BJP President Shri @AmitShah Ji for reposing trust & confidence in a humble Karyakarta like me. I also thank @BJP4Gujarat legislative party for sustaining trust.”


“Team Gujarat is fully prepared & committed to fulfill expectations & aspirations of the people from all strata irrespective of their caste, religion, profession or practice. Together we shall head towards #NewIndia.” Vijay Rupani said.


The BJP had registered a sixth straight assembly poll win in the key western state on 18 December, winning 99 seats in the 182-member house. On the other side, Vijay Rupani along with deputy chief minister Nitin Patel and other ministers had handed in their resignation to Governor O P Kohli on Thursday, following the dissolution of the legislative assembly following the recently-concluded polls.

Vijay Rupani, however, would serve as the caretaker chief minister till the formation of a new government. Many chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, as well as union cabinet ministers apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
