Islamabad, December 23: Pakistani government expressed its wish to the High Court of Islamabad to deny the clearance to Hafiz Saeed's party, Milli Muslim League (MML). The Government asked the court not to let the party get registered as it is an offshoot of Lashkar-Tayyaba (LeT) and Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD).

The MML had filed a petition in Islamabad High Court against the ECP's order of October 11 that had declined its registration as a political party due to the alleged interference of interior ministry.

According to the Pakistani interior ministry’s reply, MML is the offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jamaatud Dawa (JuD), organisations which India has alleged were involved in the 2008 Mumbai attack and the 2001 attack on Indian parliament.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) referred the matter to Ministry of Interior to seek clarification of the position of MML with regard to Section 3(4) of Political Parties Order (PPO) 2002.

“The Pak ministry formed its opinion on the basis of a security agency’s report which expressed apprehensions that the registration of MML as a political party would breed violence and extremism in politics,” statement added.

The leader of the terrorist-designated Lashkar-e-Tayyiba Hafiz Saeed was released from house arrest late in November. Meanwhile, the US has sought immediate re- arrest of Saaed, warning Islamabad that there would be repercussions for bilateral ties if it fails to act.

The 67-yr old Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Seed has a $10 million American bounty on his head for terror activities. Saeed, the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people, including six Americans, was included in the terror list on December 10, 2008, by the United Nations Security Council.

Washington strongly reacted at the release of the notorious Lashkar-e-Tayyiba leader Hafiz Saeed from the house arrest and warned regarding the repercussions in the event the country did not take any action against him.
