Dhaka, December 25: Since the onset of Rohingya crisis, t has been almost five months but so many Rohingya refugees are still now nocked up in Bangladesh. Though Myanmar government is taking few measures, the process of repatriation has not started yet. Against this backdrop, Bangladesh Health Minister Mohammed Nasim’s statement can be relieving for the refugees. Rohingyas will return to their homeland as soon as the international community and the UN pressure Myanmar into repatriating them.
As per the latest report, at least 6,700 Rohingyas were killed in the month after violence broke out in Myanmar in August. Bu the Myanmar military blames “terrorists” for the ongoing violence and has denied any wrongdoing.
More than 647,000 Rohingya have fled into Bangladesh since August. Western countries have condemned the violence as ethnic cleansing, an allegation Myanmar strongly denies.
While countries across the world criticized Myanmar government, India has always maintained his balanced position. Along with coordinating Myanmar government, India has sent relief works to conflict-torn Rakhine state several times and for the refugees in Bangladesh. Recently, Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Myanmar on Rakhine State Development Programme.
