Moscow, December 26: New events are coming up every day regarding Russian Presidential election. It is now almost certain that Vladimir Putin will be re-elected as Russian President as opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been formally barred from competing in next year's presidential election. He was disqualified citing corruption conviction which he says is politically motivated.

Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) unanimously voted against Navalny’s bid. The commission voted 12 to zero in barring Navalny from the presidential election citing embezzlement conviction. "We're declaring a strike by voters. The procedure that we're invited to take part is not an election," Navalny said after the decision was announced. He also warned of a countrywide protest.

Hundreds of supporters of Putin’s main opposition leader Alexei Navalny nominated him for president Sunday. Navalny's rerun is uncertain a he is a convict in the corruption case but his supports across the country is putting pressure on Kremlin to allow him to run in 2018 Presidential election.

Navalny's supporters across the country met in 20 cities to secure signatures in support of him. He said he gathered enough nominations to challenge Vladimir Putin in March's presidential election. He also termed his conviction as a politically motivated decision. He ran a yearlong grass root campaign and managed to gain over 700 support while 500 is minimum to initiate a Presidential bid.
