Somalia plans to host international football matches on home soil after long 30 years

Mogadishu, December 26: A sports-loving country which is due to insecurity, political turmoil in its territory could not get the chance to host soccer matches on the home ground for 30 long years. Now, the country Somalia is planning to once again play international matches on home soil in 2018. The president of Somali Soccer Federation Abdqiani Mentioned Arab said the time is correct for Somalia to host worldwide matches once more.

“The scenario within the nation is altering and we’re shifting from the long-standing lawlessness to peace and stability,” Arab mentioned. “The staging of pleasant matches at dwelling will pave the best way for the group of Cecafa tournaments in Somalia. This can re-write an age-old historical past,” the president added.

Due to the security situation, either Somalia had to play in neutral territory or in opponent country’s ground. Back in 1988, Somalia last hosted an international senior game. Somali federation will first invite East African soccer national teams to play friendly matches with the Somali national team.

The federation also wants to go beyond friendly matches. Earlier in April, The Confederation of African Football chief Ahmad Ahmad approved Somalia’s plan to host international soccer games when he visited Mogadishu

“The Somali people have the right to watch their national team play at home and we have to make that happen now that the country is going ahead,” President of Somali Football Federation said.
