Rakhine, December 27: It has been almost 4 months since the violent conflict spurred in the Rakhine state of Myanmar. Though the situation got little improved the tension still remains there. Considering this, Myanmar local authorities extended the curfew order in a part of the northern part of Rakhine state, for another two months to ensure further security, stability, and rule of law.

The latest order has taken effect from last Monday. As per the rules, assembly of more than five persons in streets or going outside from dusk to dawn between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m local time is not permitted during curfew.

Maungtaw local authority in Northern Rakhine has extended the curfew. Initially, when in August Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) extremist terrorists launched coordinated attacks on police outposts in Maungtaw, curfew was imposed. Following the conflict over 6 lakhs, Rohingya refugee flew to neighboring Bangladesh.

As per the latest report, at least 6,700 Rohingyas were killed in the month after violence broke out in Myanmar in August. But the Myanmar military blames “terrorists” for the ongoing violence and has denied any wrongdoing. More than 647,000 Rohingya have fled into Bangladesh since August. Western countries have condemned the violence as ethnic cleansing, an allegation Myanmar strongly denies.
