Tokyo, December 27: Japan has been always a good choice for the job market in Asia but now recent trend shows students are also finding Japan as a reliable place to study. The number of foreign students enrolled in Japan totaled a record 267,042 as of May. Though the percentage has increased, most of the foreign students are coming from Asian countries.

The number of students registered at Japanese universities or language schools rose 11.6 percent from a year earlier. "With more Japanese companies operating in Asia, it seems that people in the region feel familiar with (the idea of) studying or working in Japan," said a Japanese official quoted by local media.

Language schools are becoming more attractive to foreign students as the percentage rose to 15.4 percent while students studying at universities or higher educational institutions stood at 188,384, up 10.1 percent from a year before. Mostly, Chinese students are preferring Japan while Vietnam and Nepal also contribute large share.

On the other hand, a number of Japanese students studying at foreign universities or attending regular programs declined. For them, US was the most popular destination. China also attracted a large number of Japanese students.
