Moscow, December 27: While Russia has been constantly blamed by the United States for meddling in US Presidential election 2016, now Russia blames the US with the same allegation. Recently, US department of states made some comments on the issue of not allowing opposition figure Alexei Navalny to run in the upcoming election.

Opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been formally barred from competing in next year's presidential election on Tuesday. He was disqualified citing corruption conviction which he says is politically motivated. Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) unanimously voted against Navalny’s bid.

US Department of State commented on the issue and expressed its concern over the commission’s decision calling it a pressure on independent candidates. This comment has created outrage among Russian officials.

“This statement of the Department of State, which I believe will not be a single one, is a direct interference in the course of election as well as in the state’s internal affairs,” Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
