Mogadishu, December 27: US military in Africa continues its strike against al-Shabab militants. It has killed 13 members of the al-Shabab extremist group with a new airstrike in southern Somalia. The attack was carried out in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia.
The strike was carried out Sunday morning. A spokeswoman says it occurred about 50 kilometers (31 miles) northwest of Kismayo and that no civilians were killed. Till the date, US Military has carried out 34 airstrikes against Al-Shabab militants.
In an airstrike in November, US military killed over 100 militants. The pace of such attacks has significantly increased this year after US President Donald Trump has given broader authorization to attack such groups. The strike is the 34th by the U.S. inside Somalia this year. Currently, there are approximately 500 U.S. troops in Somalia.
