London, December 27: Dental fillings are now a part of history. Gone are the days of intense tooth ache. Those sleepless nights and unbearable pain is all fading away. According to a research, scientists have come up with a drug that can be used for tooth cavity. A drug earlier introduced for Alzheimer’s patients can now be used even for tooth decay’s. The new discovered drug called Tideglubsin has been introduced for repairing tooth ache.

The drug was priorly only for Alzheimer patients but the new study insists on using this medicine for tooth cavity and other problems related to teeth. Developed on a trail based treatment the medicine is used to promote natural growth of teeth due to cavity.

The medicine helps by developing stem cells in the pulp of teeth, the main source of new dentine. Dentine is the mineralized element under tooth enamel that gets eaten away by tooth decay. Therefore this can help regenerate the decayed teeth in a natural way.

The tissue gets exposed through infection that is because of decay or trauma to quicken the manufacture of dentine. Still, the tooth can only regrow a very thin layer of dentine naturally which is only for outer repair because at times the roots of the decay are deep.

The researchers have tried experimenting this by inserting small biodegradable sponges and the results suggested that there is natural growth of teeth because of this medicine. It also resulted in dentine growth and decay repair within six weeks. However it is seen that the drug is still under some test and the scientist are making some required innovations in it.
