Bali choking on plastic; the paradise on earth struggling with 'garbage emergency'

Bali, December 28: We humans are bestowed with the best gift ever, the beautiful world. But, it seems we don’t deserve the gif as we keep destroying nature, environment, and beautiful places. Bali, one of the favorite tourist spots of travelers across worldwide, face a man-made crisis called “garbage emergency”. The island has declared due to the mountains of garbage along its shorelines.

The beautiful Kuta beach which is known as the long sandy beach with long palm trees, splendid sunset never fails to give travelers solitude even among crowded tourists. Unfortunately, golden shorelines of this beautiful beach are disappearing under a mountain of garbage. Local experts say rapid economic development driven by tourism is the primary cause of the problems.

The garbage emergency which was declared by officials in Bali across a stretch of coast that includes Jimbaran, Kuta and Seminyak beaches really puts humans before a question. If development means destroying nature, then we are in serious problem. Currents in the water even bring garbage and amount of plastic waste is just a shame for everyone.

Indonesia is already one of the countries is part of UN Environment's Clean Seas campaign due to plastic trash problem. 700 sweepers/35 trucks have been deployed for clearance of 100 tons of debris every day. Among them, many workers are wearing superhero costumes of Superman, Batman, and Thor so that tourists don’t get distracted.
