More than two lakh vacancies in railways: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, Dec 28: Indian Railways has over two lakh posts lying vacant in different capacities spread over various groups with majority of them reported from the Northern Zone of the railway network, Lok Sabha was told on Wednesday.

Replying to a question Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that 2,22,159 post are lying vacant in the country’s railway network. The Northern Zone with headquarter at Delhi tops the list with 27,537 vacancies followed by the Eastern Zone with 19,942 posts, he said in reply to a written question. The Central Railway Zone has reported the vacancies of 19,651 posts.

“Filling up of vacancies is a continuous process and is done through various modes of intake. There is always a time lag between occurrence of vacancies and processing the same for filling up as it involves notification of vacancies, holding examinations etc...recruitment process of railways is done regularly,” Goyal said.

The Minister also informed the House that a total of 41,128 vacancies of SC/ST posts are lying vacant in railways across the country.

The highest number of vacancies in these posts is again in Northern Railways i.e. 8,995 vacancies, he added.
