Moscow, December 28: Russia gears up for the presidential election. Current President Vladimir Putin has officially registered his re-election bid on Wednesday. To start his official campaign for 2018 Presidential election, he submitted necessary documents to the Central Election Committee (CEC).

Pre-polls of the election predict Putin will easily win the election and have a smooth start to his sixth-year term. He is already in power for 17 long years in Russia either as Russian President or Prime Minister of Russia. The ruling United Russia party and the Just Russia party have both agreed to support him.

On December 6, putting an end to all ongoing rumors, Russia’s most popular political Vladimir Putin officially announced that he would run for next Presidential poll in 2018. During a meeting with workers at the country’s historic manufacturer, GAZ (Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod), in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod he announced the decision.

“Yes, I will run as a candidate for the Russian presidency,” Putin said earlier. He added that "the motive behind [this very responsible decision] can be only the desire to make people's lives in our country better and make the country itself more powerful and protected."
