Cyclone ‘OCKHI’ moves northwestwards from Lakshadweep; Coast Guard continues rescue mission

Lakshadweep, December 3: Trough Cyclone Ockhi has done a major havoc in Lakshadweep Island, security forces and coast guards are also working on war foot. Over 500 fishermen, stranded in the choppy waters off Kerala & Lakshadweep coasts have been rescued. Cyclone Ockhi has moved away from the Lakshadweep islands.

As per the latest report from IMD, Cyclone ‘OCKHI’ over SE Arabian Sea moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 14 kmph during past 06 hours near Latitude 11.7º N and Longitude 69.2º E, about 390 km west-northwest of Amini Divi, 910 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 1120 km south-southwest of Surat.

IMD already warned on Saturday that Isolated heavy to very rainfall is very likely over south Lakshadweep Islands during next 24 hours. But the hopeful part is, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Cyclonic storm ‘Ockhi’, is likely to weaken gradually from Sunday.

Fishermen along & off Lakshadweep Islands were advised not to venture into the sea during 48 hours from Saturday noon. Fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea during 48 hrs along & off Kerala coast during 24 hrs and along and off Karnataka coast.
