NIA arrests Bihar student leader for suspected LeT link

Gopalganj, December 3: A student leader of Bihar has been detained by the National Investigation Agency(NIA) due to suspected connections with banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). NIA has arrested him from Bihar’s Gopalganj district. His name came to surface during the probe of LeT operative Abdul Nayeem Sheikh, who was arrested in Varanasi recently.

The suspected is a native of Afaur village under the jurisdiction of Khaira police outpost in Saran district. NIA had been putting him under scanner during the arrest of Nayeem Sheikh who informed of a connection with a political activist in Gopalganj.

Name of the arrested suspect is Bedar Bhakta, popularly known as Dhannu Raja. Local report says he had a connection with student wing of Congress. He has been charged under Sections 120B, 121, 121A of IPC and 17, 18, 19, 20, 38 39 and 40 of UA (P) Act, 1967. NIA Special Court Patna granted his transit remand till December 5.

"Instructions have been issued to all the station house officers to keep a surveillance on outsiders," Gopalganj superintendent of police (SP) Mritunjay Choudhary said. Recently, Tausif Khan and his two associates were arrested from Gaya district. Tausif is an accused in Ahmedabad serial blasts of 2008.
