Deadly Islamic bullets showered on 11 Coptic Christians in Egypt

Egypt, December 30: Series of terror attacks in Cairo, the capital of Egypt has been increasing in the recent years. One such dreadful incident took place in a Catholic church. It was not a good day for the worshippers of the Coptic Church in Cairo, Egypt as 11 people were shot dead by a gunman on a motorcycle. The gunman first shot two people in a shop and then targeted the people of the church.


 

According to Egypt’s Interior Ministry, the gunman killed two people in the Christian owned shop and then killed nine people of the church breaking the security chain. People around the church were terrified by the sudden sound of shooting and the worshippers inside the church had closed the gates. The gunman also tried to throw an explosive device in the church.

A witness of the incident said, “People were terrified and wanted to check on their families in other buildings of the church. We stayed inside for 30 minutes before we were able to get out.”

It was reported that there were two gunmen who were involved in this incident as one eloped from the scene, the other was badly wounded. The forces immediately arrested the wounded gunmen. Security measures around the church have been stepped up by the police force and metal detectors are also set up around some of the bigger churches. The official forces have taken legal measures and an investigation has been issued against this incident.

Coptic Christian also known as Copts are the largest minority in Egypt comprising of 10% of the population. It has been noticed that this Christian minority in Egypt have always been targeted by the Islamic extremists in the recent years. They have been targeted by Islamic militants in a series of attacks that left almost 100 people dead and wounded since 2016. Earlier last week a, Muslim demonstrators attacked a church in south Cairo and shouted anti-Christian slogans. The demonstrators destroyed the church’s contents and assaulted Christians inside before security personnel arrived and dispersed them.
