Mumbai’s heartbeat, weekend’s escape, everyone’s refreshing destination is none other than –Gateway of India.

Today on this day back in 1924, our Gateway of India was inaugurated by Lord Riding; also the monument from where the last boats of Britishers was sailed when they left India.

Gateway of India is the starting point of our beloved Mumbai city. This monument was built to commemorate the visit of the first ever British Monarch, King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. It is known to be the ‘Pride of Mumbai’. Mumbaikars, as well as the foreign tourists come down to this place in the evening and take a cool rest from day's exhausting work schedules. Mumbai is well connected by air, rail and road with the important places within and beyond the state.

These days, the gateway is a favourite gathering spot for locals and a top place for people-watching. Giant-balloon sellers, photographers, vendors making the most favourite chat bhelpuri and touts rub shoulders with locals and tourists, creating all the hubbub of a bazaar.

The Gateway of India is an emblematic landmark not only in Mumbai but in the entire country. Located on the southern part of the city, the gateway overlooks the splendid Arabian Sea. A monument that speaks volumes about the political history of the country, Gateway of India is the perfect place to get acquainted with the spirited life of Mumbai and is a favourite among history buffs, tourists and photographers.
