Mumbai receives spells of rains owing to Cyclone Ockhi; school and colleges to remain shut on Tuesday

Mumbai, December 4: As per earlier predictions, several areas of Mumbai have received rain on Monday evening. The more Cyclone Ockhi is nearing Mumbai, the untimely rainfall has started in the city and its suburbs. It is likely that after a long stretch of dry weather city might witness few spells of rain.

Observing the situation, Maharashtra government has also announced holiday for colleges school and on Tuesday in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Sindhudurga, Thane, Raigad and Palghar Districts for the safety of the students due to the serious weather predictions.

“Light to moderate rainfall is very likely at a few places over north Konkan including Mumbai on 4th December. Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over north Konkan on 5th December (Palghar, Thane, Raigarh, Greater Mumbai, Dhule, Nandurbar, Nashik, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar and Pune districts),” Ministry of Earth Science said in an official release.

Sea condition would be rough to very rough along & off north Maharashtra and South Gujarat coasts from the 4th night to 6th December 2017 morning.

The very severe cyclonic storm ‘OCKHI’ over eastcentral Arabian Sea moved further north-northeastwards with a speed of 13 kmph during past few hours and lay centered this afternoon about 590 km southwest of Mumbai and 770 km south-southwest of Surat.
